    Job Summary

    :

    Pratt & Whitney's Puerto Rico Hot Section Engineering (HSE) is seeking a goal oriented, detail-focus Structures Engineer to work on existing and next generation of commercial and military gas turbine engines. Engineer would provide analytical support for the preliminary design phase through detailed design, development testing, production, and field support of hot section engineering hardware. Possible opportunities include Military and Commercial Airfoils, Rotor, Exhaust Nozzle and Static Hardware. Determination on assigned hardware and program will be based on candidate's experience and development strategy. Structure Engineer will apply scientific principles to analyze, innovate, design, develop, and implement technologies, components, subsystems, machines, tools, and systems to ensure compliance to specifications, requirements, and customer guarantees across applicable operating conditions. Ensures novel ideas and implementations are captured and protected using applicable IP processes and tools.

    Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide analytical support throughout the design phase, manufacturing, and MRO phases of a product lifecycle. This includes ANSYS finite element analysis for stress, vibration, mission low cycle fatigue life, residual life (fracture mechanics) prediction, and optimization; stress testing and data reduction; and production and in-service field investigations.
  • Participate in cross-functional product design teams to balance performance, cost, schedule, and quality requirements. This includes attending and participating in meetings, calls, and training.
  • Ability to incorporate new technologies and processes to improve results, write clear and concise documentation, and create and deliver impactful and persuasive technical presentations to IPT, CIPT, and customers.
  • Develop and sustain a healthy work relationship based on mutual trust with pears, internal and external customers where significant interaction is expected.
  • Actively lead or support initiatives related to our community and for continuous improvement using CORE tools and support AS9100 efforts.
  • English (read, write, speak) is required when communicating with customers, co-workers, or supervisors who only speak English
  • Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Structural, Civil or Aerospace Engineering and 5 years of engineering experience, or an Advanced Degree in Engineering with 3 years of engineering experience.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Travel for this role is up to 10%
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 3 years of experience working in the Aerospace Industry
  • 3 years of experience with software and programing languages. ANSYS, Workbench, ABAQUS, PATRAN / NASTRAN, APDL, MATLAB, VBA, Python, C++, Fortran, MS Office, NX Teamcenter and SAP
  • 3 years of experience with Microsoft Office applications
